North Sweden – The seeds of a global mission were sown decades ago with a simple evangelist’s fervent desire to spread the gospel. His revival campaigns, marked by powerful outpourings of the Holy Spirit, deeply impacted a young boy who would later play a pivotal role in expanding that mission. This narrative traces the journey of “Tent Mission” from its humble beginnings to the establishment of the impactful aid and development organization, Star of Hope.
Founded in 1966, Tältmissionen ( Tent Mission), under the guidance of the evangelist Erik Gunnar Eriksson, embarked on its mission to proclaim the gospel worldwide. Initial efforts focused on Uganda and Brazil, partnering with local evangelists to spread their message. A turning point came in 1969 during a revival campaign in Brazil. Witnessing the plight of a dying boy in a slum ignited a second conversion within the evangelist, broadening his understanding of the gospel to encompass social action. He returned to Sweden with a vision: to not only preach the gospel but also provide aid to impoverished children and families.
This vision resonated deeply with the then 12-year-old boy who had accompanied the evangelist on his campaigns. Years later, after visiting the children’s work in Brazil, he knew his calling. He dreamt of Tent Mission evolving to include an aid and development arm, which would become known as Star of Hope. His dream became a reality. After years of dedicated work, Star of Hope stands as a respected organization, making a significant difference in the lives of children and families across 14 nations.
Despite the growth and expansion, the core spiritual DNA of the mission remains unchanged. The gospel of Jesus Christ, the foundation upon which everything is built, continues to be the driving force. Looking to the future, Tent Mission reaffirms its commitment to this foundational vision. Leaders emphasize the crucial connection between the gospel’s transformative power and the success of their social investments.

The story of Tent Mission and Star of Hope is a testament to the enduring power of faith, the importance of social action, and the potential for a small seed of an idea to blossom into a global force for good.
